What makes a great shoe? That might seem like a fairly obvious question. There's no doubt that plenty of people would say that a fantastic shoe will need to be stylish. It should look good with the clothes that you're wearing. Indeed, shoes might be seen as accessories, in much the same way that items of jewelery are viewed.
But is this what shoes are really all about? There's an increasing feeling that it's not enough for footwear to simply look good. Although this may be one aspect of what they're required to do, there should surely be more to them than this.

In this context, we might well think that it doesn't make sense to buy a pair of shoes that won't last for long. Throwing them away and buying an endless selection of new products doesn't feel like it would be very good for the environment. So maybe we should think in a different way.
Maybe it's important to think in the way that previous generations have done and to consider that buying items that are built to last should be an urgent consideration.
With this in mind, we might suggest that great shoes are about more than simply looking good. They're also about being made from quality products and providing an element of longevity. Is this where our requirements come to an end? We might think so, but there's at least one other feature that's needed when it comes to fantastic footwear.
We should expect that a great shoe will also be comfortable. What's the point of buying stylish shoes if they're actually too painful to wear?
The next time you're looking for a new pair of shoes, you might want to think a bit more deeply about the choice that you're about to make.
